Makoto Mizuhara is the main character. He is an everyday normal high school student in Japan. Makoto excedes in all the acedemics areas and can normally be found with his best friend - Nanami Jinnai. Little does Makoto know but Nanami has a huge crush on him.
Nanami Jinai is also from Japan. She is and her twin brother Katsihigo Jinnai are the same age as Makoto. Makoto has been friends with the two since they were little. Makoto is completly unaware of the huge crush Nanami has on him. She does little things for him, like make his lunch, but he doesn't think it is a big deal becaue she makes so many lunches. She makes so many meals so that she can sell them, for you see Nanami has a keen business sense and loves to make a buck.
Katsihigo Jinai is commonly referred to by his last name. Only his twin sister, Nanami refers to his by his first name. Jinnai harbors a deep hatred for Makoto because he feels as though Makoto is always outdoing him in every event. He is jealous of Makoto's success, acheivment and popularity. Makoto is always nice to Jinnai but he ought to be careful because Katsihigo is always out to get him. Jinnai always has a sense of competition in mind and is always eager to rule when he can. When he believes he has come up with an ingenous plan or he sense victory he lets out his infamously notorious high pitched trade mark laugh.
Sense Fujisawa is a teacher at Makoto, Nanami and Jinnai's high school. He is very close with his students Nanami and Makoto and is more thier friend than instructor. Fujisawa has another love though - sakai or good old alcohol. When Fujisawa is sucked into El-Hazard he is granted with the special gifts of super strength and invulnerability, however, watch out - if Mr. Fujisawa has been drinking - his powers are void! Although he acts shy around the High Preistess Miz it is believed that he does actually share mutual feelings for her.
Miz Mishtal is the first priestest Makoto and his friend encounter once they enter El-Hazard. She is the Muldoon high preistess of water. Miz's title and magical ring gifts her with the ability to control water molecules and use them to do whatever she desires. Miz is the eldest of the 3 preistesses and dreams of finidng a husband so that she may find love and retire. Once she encoutners Mr. Fugisawa, Makoto and Nanami's mentor, teacher and friend, Miz falls madly in love and is always quick to jump to her "darling's side." However, don't let Miz's goo goo eyes and girlie attitude fool you - when it comes time to do business Miz definately takes charge.
Afura Mann is the next priestest Makoto and company meets. Afura is the 2nd high preistess of the Sacred Mt. Muldooon and controls the Wind. It is rumored that Afura is the wisest and possibly the strongest of the 3 high preistesses, but no one can be sure. Afura enjoys having small disputes with her fellow preistess Shayla Shayla but in reality the two are actually really good friends. Afura has a snobish air about her and approaches every situation with logic. She considers her duties as preistess to be very honorable. Afura is quick with witty remarks and seems to be the only female character that does not have a crush one anyone.
Shayla Shayla is the last of the priestests and controls fire. Her element pretty much sums up her character and attitude. Shayla is very quick to judge and has a "fire" now ask later approach to many situations. Shayla seems to have an awesome contorl over her element and is certainly the most aggresive of the three preistesses. Shayla is not one to be "boy crazy" but starts getting butterflies for Makoto. Nanami is able to pick up on this, as well as Shayla is able to tell that Nanami also likes Makoto, alas Makoto is still oblivious to both of the girl's attraction for him. Shayla and Nanami often fight to get Makoto's attention or to get the place by his side. All together Shayla adds some kick ass action as well as comedy to the adventorous tale of El-Hazard.
Rune Venus is the princess of Rushtraria, the first kingdom the travelers run into at El-Harzard. Rune is a wise and gentel ruler and is greatly loved by her kingdom. It would seem that Rune Venus would have the perfect life if not for the annoying Bugrom constanly trespassing into her kingdom to cause disturbances and chaos all for the purpose of their greater goal - to take over Rushtaria and rule all of El-Hazard
Fatora is Rune's younger sister. She is not in the 1st El-hazard tv series - the Wonderers but is in the rest: The 1st OVA - Magnificent World, the 2nd OVA - Demon Kalia, as well as the 2nd TV series - The Alternate World. It is ironical that Fator and Makoto have the same exact face but can only be distinguished by Fatora's long hair or Makoto's short hair. To make matters more interesting Fator is an out right lesbian and takes whatever chance she can get to put her hair up, to look like Makoto or vice versa - give Makoto a wig for so that they 2 are indistinguishable, giving Fatora a chance to hit on her crushes - Shayla and Nanami.
She is the guide given to the travelers when they go to find the preistests. Alielle is also Fatora's lover. She also has a crush on Nanami as well as all the preistesses, except maybe Miz. Alielle is always quick to jump into the arms of her lover Fatora or help her mistress fool the girls into thinking she is Makoto.
Ifurita is a demon goddess. Her whole purpose is to be used as a weapon by her master. In the OVA series she looks like this and is more serious.
This Ifurita is the one I took my sn from. She is in the 1st El-Hazard Tv series - The Wanderers. Her character is much lighter than the Ifurita from the other series. Ifurita from the Wanderers is very ditzy and constanlty forgetting her Master's (Jinnai) orders. She is actually really friendly and would really poses no threat to anyone, she just "tries" and i do mean "tries" to do what her master makes her. The other Ifurita is much more serious and a huge pain in the ass for Makoto and the preiestesses.
Queen Diva is the leader of the Bugrom. She attempts to use this army (seen is picture to the right) to take over the entire world of El-Harzard, but really only because Jinnai stumbeled upon them and convinced them to. Otherwise Diva is still forceful and devious but would not plan a full on attack and war to conquer the world.
